What a surprise!
Three words...GREAT WOLF LODGE! Matthew reserved Monday and Tuesday nights at the Great Wolf Lodge this week. We surprised the kids. We didn't tell them anything other than we had a big surprise. We left Monday morning and arrived at the lodge at around 1pm. The kids seemed pretty excited. We checked in and went straight to the water park. After being in the water for a few hours, Zach started complaining of being cold. He was shivering; his lips were blue. We decided it was time to get out and go have dinner. Little did we know Zach was going to have a fever when we got back to the room. We went to eat dinner at Sticky Fingers and Zach wasn't too hungry. So we took a trip to the store to get some Tylenol. We went back to the room and the kids were in the bed asleep by about 8:30. Zach woke up several times throughout the night (at one point, he was awake for over an hour).
When we woke up Tuesday morning at 6:15am (because that's what time Elliott woke up), we made the decision to check out, pack up and head back home a day early. What a bummer!
We did make a stop at IKEA. (That can always cheer someone (Mommy) up). We got a few Christmas presents and a few things for us. Packed the van and headed home. I was glad to get home though. I think the kids slept a little better too.
This morning, Elliott was wheezing a bit. He had been coughing since Monday. Zach still wasn't feeling well and still had a fever so I decided it was time to call the doctor. The doctor swabbed Zach's throat to test for strep. Of course, it came back positive. He was a champ though! I started explaining that he had a rash (it started on his face and had spread overnight) that was covering a majority of his body. She took a look and said he has scarlet fever. What?!?!?! Yes. Scarlet Fever. It is contagious. And she said the other two kids could get it. And so could Mommy and Daddy. Not cool! She swabbed Elliott's throat just to make sure, and thankfully, it was negative.
So, here's to getting new toothbrushes and toothpaste for the kids, changing sheets, getting new pillows and cleaning/sanitizing all the other stuff that may have been contaminated.
